World Water Day: Guided tour and workshops for primary school pupils in Palud
24/03/2026
On the occasion of World Water Day, PP5 - Natura Histrica organized an educational tour and workshop at the Palud Ornithological Reserve for pupils of Juraj Dobrila Primary School Rovinj – Bale Branch.
On 23 March 2026, the pupils, accompanied by our guides and their teachers, took part in an interactive walk through Palud, where they had the opportunity to learn about the importance of wetlands for biodiversity, conservation, and the local community. We discussed the importance of birds, species inhabiting the Palud area, protected areas, as well as the challenges posed by climate change and invasive species.
Through an educational workshop adapted to the primary school level, pupils gained a closer understanding of bird ecology and basic biological concepts. The visit also included birdwatching at the Palud wetland, where we were delighted to spot the first Black-winged stilt of the year!
This important breeding species of Palud has returned from its wintering grounds in warmer regions of Africa and will be increasingly present at Palud throughout the upcoming spring and summer months.
The GREWAPP tool was presented to accompanying teachers, which allows for active participation of the public in collecting important data for management and conservation of the Palud wetland.
