Interactive photography exhibit showcased during Lectorinfabula Festival in Conversano

08/10/2024

The Giuseppe Di Vagno Foundation presented the exhibit "Rocco Errico's Lens: An Interactive Experience" during the 20th edition of the Lectorinfabula festival, held from September 19-25, 2024 in Conversano. This interactive photography exhibition, set up at the Foundation's headquarters, aimed to showcase the extensive collection of 35mm black-and-white negatives from the Rocco Errico photographic archive, which is currently being digitized as part of the DIGITsmart project.

Born in Livorno on June 24, 1933, Rocco Errico was a celebrated Italian photographer with a passion for social and political reportage. After starting his career in the late 1960s, he became one of the most renowned photojournalists in Italy during the 1980s, collaborating with several leading magazines and newspapers. His archive, stored by the Di Vagno Foundation and containing thousands of black-and-white negatives, reflects his unique ability to capture significant moments in Italy's social and political landscape.

An interactive exhibition, curated by Jacopo De Benedictis, invited visitors to explore the perspectives of photographer Rocco Errico by selecting fragments of the past from a collection of 400 photographs, meticulously organized according to Errico's original annotations. The exhibit ranged from reports on social hardship and political demonstrations in Puglia to stage photography. Organized as part of the DIGITsmart project, this exhibition was a highlight of the Lectorinfabula festival.

Lectorinfabula, founded in 2006, has grown into one of Italy’s most influential cultural events, bringing together notable figures from the political, cultural, and media landscapes of Italy and Europe. Over the course of seven days, the festival hosted more than 100 free events, including debates, book presentations, workshops, film screenings, and photography exhibitions, with a strong focus on youth engagement and cultural exploration.

The Giuseppe Di Vagno Foundation is pleased to announce that, in collaboration with the Apulian Soprintendenza Archivistica e Bibliografica, the exhibition will be displayed again on the mornings of October 14 and 15 during the "Open Archives" event, promoted by the Rete Fotografia network.
