iNEST - Ecosistema dell'Innovazione del Nord Est
Yesterday in Trieste, Mr Giacomo Morassutti (Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea) presented DIGITPORTS project at the workshop “Marine Digital Twins: coasts, harbours and infrastructures for sustainable management, system integration and blue economy development”, organised within the iNEST - Ecosistema dell'Innovazione del Nord Est initiative.
The event gathered around 50 participants, including representatives from universities, research centres and IT companies specialised in digital twin technologies. The workshop provided a concrete space for discussion on how digital twins can support the sustainable management of coastal areas and port infrastructures, with a strong focus on data integration, real-time monitoring and decision-support tools.
During the afternoon session, DIGITPORTS was presented through the contribution “DIGITPORTS and Digital Twins of Adriatic Ports”, highlighting the project’s approach to developing digital solutions for port environments in the Adriatic area. The presentation showcased ongoing activities aimed at improving infrastructure management, enhancing interoperability and supporting more efficient and resilient port operations. And digitalization is the key to achieving these goals.
The discussion confirmed how important it is to create opportunities for exchange between projects, research and industry. Sharing experiences, approaches and challenges allows to better align ongoing initiatives and avoid fragmentation, while fostering cross-fertilisation between different technological and operational contexts.
Participation in the iNEST workshop also strengthened the positioning of DIGITPORTS within a broader innovation ecosystem, opening up new perspectives for collaboration and future developments in the field of marine digital twins and smart ports.
