Digital Ethic Culture (D.E.C.) project final conference held in Metković

23/10/2024

The final conference of the Digital Ethics Culture (D.E.C.) project was held at the City Cultural Center Gallery in Metković on October 23, 2024. Organized by the City of Metković, with partners EURelations and Odos, the event aimed to enhance understanding of GDPR, AI, and internet security through expert presentations and discussions.

The D.E.C. project, funded by the EU Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 program, aims to support the Italian and Croatian business sectors in understanding and aligning with the new regulations of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), as well as addressing the challenges posed by artificial intelligence and internet security.

The primary objective of the project is to unite efforts in identifying key gaps in knowledge and awareness regarding citizens' digital rights and to develop tools that enable effective technology management. The project includes two main components: strengthening digital culture in ethics and networking digital ethics ambassadors.

During the conference, attendees were welcomed by Mayor Dalibor Milan, with the event moderated by Lara Šiljeg, the technical coordinator of the D.E.C. project representing the City of Metković. Expert presentations featured keynote speaker Professor Guido Salvaneschi, who discussed the enhancement of artificial intelligence and its impact on internet security. Nicholas Murdica from ODOS shared experiences from the D.E.C. project and highlighted best practices in the perception of the third sector concerning internet security, data protection, and artificial intelligence. Project partners Daniele Sabato and Dario Brocato spoke about digital risks and rights in mainstream processes of digital ethics and addressed issues related to androids and cyberattacks. Zvonko Čuljat from TERA BOT d.o.o. discussed the role of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity for the future.

The conference concluded with a summary of findings and an interactive discussion with attendees, mainly young people, who had the opportunity to acquire new knowledge and skills regarding new technologies.

Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding was ceremoniously signed with project partners and young ambassadors.

The Digital Ethics Culture project is being implemented from August 1, 2023, to November 30, 2024, with a total budget of €206,540, of which €165,232 is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
