Strengthening Cross-Border Cooperation for Climate-Resilient Coastal Planning

25/05/2026

Partners and stakeholders from Croatia and Italy gathered in Pescara on 20 May 2026 for a bilateral exchange focused on climate change adaptation in territorial planning. The event brought together representatives of public authorities, regional institutions, universities and experts to discuss practical approaches to building more resilient coastal communities in the Adriatic area.

The programme featured presentations of national, regional and local experiences in climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, spatial planning and coastal resilience. Representatives of the Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition shared Croatian policy approaches and experiences in climate adaptation and environmental planning.

Participants also explored project achievements and pilot-area experiences, including vulnerability assessments, climate adaptation guidelines, climate scenarios and coastal erosion analyses developed by Croatian and Italian partners. Scientific and technical contributions highlighted the importance of integrating research results into planning processes and decision-making at regional and local levels.

The event provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange, discussion of common challenges and identification of future cooperation opportunities. It further strengthened collaboration between institutions working on climate adaptation and confirmed the value of connecting science, public policy, spatial planning and local expertise to support resilient Adriatic coastal areas.
