21/10/2025

The project was presented on October 15, 2025, in Brussels during the European Week of Regions and Cities, highlighting its crucial role in promoting climate-resilient coastal planning. The project, aims to enhance the resilience of urban and coastal communities in the Adriatic region by integrating climate adaptation measures into spatial planning.

The presentation by the responsible of the Abruzzo Region office in Brussels, connected the project's local efforts to the broader themes of the event, "Climate governance in the Mediterranean Regions for sustainable growth". The discussion underscored the urgent need for a multi-level governance approach and targeted investment to address the increasing climate pressures facing Southern Europe.

As a key partner, the Abruzzo Region is leading the charge in developing strategies to combat climate risks such as coastal erosion and flooding. Pineto and Nuova Pescara have been chosen as the Italian pilot areas to develop and test innovative adaptation measures. The project will develop strategic guidelines for adapting spatial planning processes and create a curriculum for lifelong learning on climate transition.

This initiative is a critical step toward the sustainable management of climate risks and promotes transnational cooperation and innovation in the Adriatic.
