World Oceans Day – Blue Innovation Days
As part of the BRIGANTINE project activities, the Ruđer Bošković Institute – Center for Marine Research (RBI-CMR) participated in the public event "Blue Innovation Days", organized on 8 June 2026 in Rovinj on the occasion of World Oceans Day.
The event gathered representatives of research institutions, public authorities, companies, NGOs, students and the general public with the objective of presenting innovative solutions for marine monitoring, environmental protection and sustainable blue economy development.
The morning programme was held at the Cultural Centre of Rovinj and included presentations of several national and international projects related to marine research and environmental monitoring. During the event, the BRIGANTINE project was presented to participants, highlighting its objectives, partnership structure and the role of advanced monitoring technologies in supporting sustainable management of marine ecosystems and aquaculture activities.
The event was attended by several BRIGANTINE project partners, including representatives of the University of Udine (UNIUD) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb (FSB), who contributed to discussions on technological innovation, marine monitoring and the transfer of research results into practical applications.
Particular emphasis was placed on the integration of autonomous and innovative monitoring solutions developed and tested within the project framework, including the use of autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), remote sensing technologies and digital tools for environmental data collection.
In the afternoon, a live demonstration of BRIGANTINE technologies was organized at the Rovinj Diving Centre. The demonstration was jointly carried out by partners from the Ruđer Bošković Institute, the University of Udine and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb. Participants had the opportunity to observe the operation of autonomous surface vehicles and associated monitoring technologies, while researchers presented their capabilities for autonomous navigation, environmental data acquisition and support for marine ecosystem assessment.
The demonstration generated significant interest among stakeholders and the public, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the practical implementation of project results and the benefits of cross-border scientific and technological cooperation.
The event contributed to increasing the visibility of the BRIGANTINE project, promoting innovative marine monitoring technologies and strengthening communication between researchers, stakeholders and citizens. It also supported project dissemination objectives by raising awareness of the importance of technological innovation for marine environmental protection and sustainable blue growth in the Adriatic region.
The activity was implemented by the Ruđer Bošković Institute – Center for Marine Research in cooperation with BRIGANTINE project partners as part of the project's communication, dissemination and stakeholder engagement activities.
