A Shared Vision for the Coast: Engaging with the Marano Fishing Community on New Strategic Initiatives

On January 20, 2026, the BRAVE project was presented at the Producer Organization – San Vito Fishermen’s Cooperative in Marano Lagunare, outlining upcoming actions in the Grado and Marano Lagoon.
Regional authorities and the University of Udine signed an agreement to study the interaction between lagoon cockles and Manila clams, focusing on fishing pressure and the increasing predation by the blue crab.
The objective is to update the status of mollusc resources in the Marano Lagoon, given the context of low productivity, by strengthening current knowledge with new, solid scientific data to support effective policies for the protection of fishery resources and biodiversity, as well as to address the growing impact of the blue crab.
During the meeting, fishing operators showed strong interest in staying involved and informed about the next steps of the project, given the significant effects these challenges have on their daily activities.
