Blue Education, Training and Culture. The report of the two days of training in Split

05/05/2026

Following the successful session in Acquatina (University of Salento), BlueDiversity training for Students moved to Split, Croatia, on 27 and 28 April, hosted by the Department of Marine Studies, University of Split

The joint Italy-Croatia training programme is organized by the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries, Sea and Karst and Eduforma

The course fosters interregional cooperation by bringing together an international cohort of students, representing Italy and Croatia, to highlight the importance of transferring specialized knowledge and promote the importance of sustainability to the next generation
The participants engaged in frontal lectures with the educational materials developed in the previous year by the collaboration of BlueDiversity partners: each organization contributed with its specific expertise.

Activities in Split

During the two-day training course, the students took part in classroom sessions, advanced practical activities and technology demonstrations. They had the opportunity to see how marine monitoring is performed using a Remotely Underwater Operated Vehicle (RUOV) and received hands-on training on its proper technical use and deployment. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a pilot test of VR headsets in a training environment, exploring how immersive digital simulations can enhance marine conservation strategies.

Thanks to BlueDiversity and Interreg Italy-Croatia, students bridged the gap between academic theory and high-tech applications, experiencing firsthand the importance of interregional cooperation among multiple stakeholders.
