Exploring the Potential of VR and Industry 4.0 for Blue Economy SMEs
05/08/2026
As part of the BEST4.0 project, the University of Rijeka provided nine entrepreneurs from the Blue Economy sector with practical support in exploring and applying advanced digital technologies to their everyday business operations.
Following a public call and an evaluation of applications, the selected companies received free access to project-developed services tailored to their specific business needs.
Lanterna IT, Multiteam d.o.o., Dezinsekcija d.o.o. and Adricom d.o.o. tested immersive virtual reality (HMD VR) equipment, exploring its potential for employee training, safety familiarisation, inspection procedures and simulation-based learning. Maripoint and Batego received customised VR simulation scenarios developed around their specific business processes, creating a foundation for further digitalisation of internal procedures and staff training. Zorović Maritime d.o.o., Simtec-Marine d.o.o. and Jatro d.o.o. participated in a knowledge transfer session on Industry 4.0 technologies, focusing on the potential of immersive technologies to support technical communication, training and process improvement.
Through experience with the technologies and direct interaction with the University of Rijeka's expert team, the participating entrepreneurs gained a better understanding of how immersive and digital solutions can be integrated into their businesses. The experience provides a practical basis for planning future technology investments, improving internal processes and developing new approaches to knowledge and experience that remain with the companies beyond the project's activities.
