Educational and creative workshops in Split schools

11/06/2025

As part of the AWASTER – Adopting Waste as Resource project, educational and creative workshops were held in elementary schools in Split, elementary school Skalice and elementary school Visoka.

The objective of the workshops was to introduce students to the principles of the circular economy, sustainable waste management and preventing marine litter in Adriatic sea.

During the workshops, students explored key circular economy concepts and applied them through practical activities. Students used marine litter to create artistic installations and practical objects during the workshop guided by artist Nives Čičin-Šain. They transformed marine litter into creative expressions of sustainability.

The finished works were later presented in exhibitions organized within their schools, allowing the entire school community to engage with the project. These exhibitions highlighted the students' creativity and raised awareness about marine pollution and circular solutions.

Teachers were also involved, receiving guidance and resources to help extend the impact of the activities beyond the classroom, encouraging behavioral change within families and the wider school community.
