The analysis identifies common strengths, challenges, opportunities and risks across the partner territories and explores their potential for alternative, sustainable and community-based tourism development. Despite their different landscapes, traditions and levels of tourism development, the territories share valuable assets such as local food and production, traditional knowledge, natural and cultural heritage, motivated stakeholders and existing local initiatives.
A key common finding is that the main challenge is not the lack of tourism resources, but the need to better connect existing local assets into authentic, visible and sustainable visitor experiences. The analysis highlights the potential of stronger stakeholder cooperation, storytelling, intergenerational knowledge transfer, alternative tourism itineraries and improved digital visibility.
The Joint Comparative SWOT Analysis provides an analytical basis for the subsequent development of the joint AltRoute Strategy and alternative tourism itineraries, while allowing each partner territory to preserve its distinctive local characteristics and identity. The development of the joint Strategy and the creation of the alternative tourism itineraries will follow in the next project period, building on the findings and common orientations identified through the comparative analysis.
