About
Peripheral Adriatic communities often struggle to balance the preservation of traditional heritage with the need for modern, sustainable economic growth. The AltRoute project addresses this by fostering alternative tourism experiences rooted in the "Adriatic way of life". By focusing on enogastronomy as immaterial cultural heritage and applying circular economy principles, the initiative designs unique, slow-mobility routes that highlight the authentic character of small, rural territories in Italy and Croatia. Central to the project is the inclusion of both young and senior inhabitants in the decision-making process. Using a design-thinking methodology, AltRoute ensures that senior wisdom and youth innovation receive equal weight, empowering local stakeholders to co-create resilient tourism products. This collaborative approach is particularly vital for the small municipalities and newcomer institutions involved, as it bridges the generational gap and ensures long-term community commitment. Key activities include cross-border youth exchange camps, enogastronomy festivals, and workshops led by tourism experts. Through these joint efforts, AltRoute creates a replicable model for territorial cooperation, enhancing the visibility of peripheral regions while promoting a sustainable, experience-based tourism offer across the Adriatic.
