Traditional Maritime and River Navigation

The first part of the Adriatic PorTLand project was dedicated to demonstrating and communicating the value of traditional maritime and river navigation practices and to train a new generation of tourist operators via practical, experiential Joint Exchange Labs.

1.1 Best practices showcase

Best practices showcase

Discover a collection of 4 individual videos and one joint video created by our project partners. These videos showcase examples of good practices that contribute to the preservation of the intangible heritage of marine and river navigation in destinations of Rovinj-Rovigno (CRO), Mošćenička Draga (CRO), Cesenatico (IT) and Battaglia Terme (IT).

The project activities together with authentic details of each partner were also documented on the Adriatic PorTLand Instagram profile. There, you can explore the partners' efforts in heritage preservation and how they collaborated through the exchange of knowledge, skills, and best practices.

1.2 Joint Exchange Laboratories

Joint Exchange Laboratories

Four Joint Exchange Laboratories were created to develop a synergetic offer that exploits the off-seasonal benefits of tourism linked with local and common nautical traditional values. 

Take look at the Joint Exchange Labs Report to learn how guided discussions in Battaglia Terme, Rovinj, Mošćenička Draga, and Cesenatico helped future tourism operators connect the potential of traditional activities with the current tourism offerings.

WP2: A Joint Plan for Traditional Adriatic Shipbuilding and Navigation

A Joint Plan for Traditional Adriatic Shipbuilding and Navigation

The conclusion of the Adriatic Portland project presents a joint strategy and an action plan aimed at integrating traditional coastal and river navigation in the territories involved.

The plan takes into account the results from the Exchange Labs, feedback from local participants in organized boat meetings, and findings from the Design Thinking Workshop. The partners have committed to implementing the plan by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

This section will contain all the deliverables created within the following activities:

Tools for joint tourism governance actions (inspirational Logbook of four traditional boats meetings)
Strategic planning (strategy for the development of cultural tourism of shared Sea-River cultural heritage)

Adriatic PorTLand Traditional Boats Meetings Logbook

All partners have organised and participated in traditional boat meetings. There was 4 boat meetings and the Logbook of these enconuters has been produced as s promotional but also participative governance tool.

2.2.1 Adriatic PorTLand Strategy

Adriatic PorTLand Joint Strategy

This strategy offers recommendation and guidelines on how to use the potential of traditional river and coastal navigation as a key for economic and sustainable development of the cross-border area by setting strategic goals and tasks necessary to reach those goals.

This document can be applied in many areas that face the same issues of extreme seasonal and localised tourism flows.
