Heritage Transmission: Adriatic PorTLand Youth Exchange Program in 2025.
26/01/2025
Through exchanging information and experiences, the partners of the Adriatic PorTLand project identified the transmission of maritime and river heritage as one of their key joint activities. Traditional skills were an integral part of daily life for older generations, but younger generations often struggle to forge a close connection with these traditions. Engaging young people in learning about heritage, let alone living it, can be very challenging.
To create a cohesive tourist offering that connects these generations and allows Adriatic PorTLand partners to present themselves jointly in the tourist market, the Blue Week/Settimana Blue children's program was developed. This program introduces school-aged children to the heritage of each partner through a series of engaging activities that inspire them to appreciate and potentially pursue heritage work later in life.
The Blue Week/Settimana Blue program will take place in Mošćenička Draga, Rovinj, Battaglia Terme, and Cesenatico, involving 20-30 children aged 9 to 13. The event is scheduled for June 2025. In addition to learning about the history of each place and learning numerous skills, children will participate in a search for heritage treasures and a workshop on making a model of a traditional ship throughout the week.
The added value of this initiative includes creating a specific and sustainable tourist offering that unites Croatian and Italian partners, alleviating the pressure of seasonal mass tourism by promoting attractive heritage experiences in less frequented inland river areas like Battaglia Terme. Additionally, it raises awareness of the partners' activities and goals among another key demographic: parents and families of the young participants.
