Through successful collaboration to the strategy
23/12/2024
The Adriatic PorTLand project ends with the calendar year! The joint strategy paves the way for joint work on the realisation of a plan that connects partners from both sides of the Adriatic. All the results of the project are waiting for you in the Library section, and here we will focus on the most important one - the Joint strategy.
The territories involved in the Adriatic PorTLand project have numerous initiatives aimed at promoting and protecting their traditional shipbuilding heritage and navigation practices while encouraging sustainable practices. However, these initiatives have not been integrated effectively. The Adriatic PorTLand project aims to develop a synergistic approach that addresses the challenge of reconnecting inland areas with coastal regions through a carefully designed tourism offering that safeguards intangible heritage.
The findings, exchange of best practices, and conclusions that led to the creation of the Joint Strategy can be applied to various regions facing similar challenges, particularly those experiencing extreme seasonal and localised tourism flows, especially where there is a rich tradition of navigation and strong shipbuilding heritage. This makes the Joint Strategy widely applicable to such areas. However, it is important to note that the analysis included in the Joint Strategy primarily focuses on the specific cases of the territories and heritage sites involved in the project. These sites provide a range of unique insights. Examples of best practices from the Mediterranean region were considered when exploring opportunities.
This strategy uses the Adriatic PorTLand project as a reference point and aims to alleviate the challenges of seasonal mass tourism in certain destinations by redirecting tourist flows and serving as guidelines for tourism delocalization. By easing the pressure on areas that experience extreme seasonal tourism peaks and boosting tourism in less crowded regions, the strategy seeks to achieve the common goal of safeguarding coastal and river navigation and shipbuilding heritage.
All partners and the local goverments of the City of Rovinj-Rovigno, the Municipality of Mošćenička Draga, Cesenatico and Battaglia Terme have committed to implementing the plan by signing a Memorandum of Understanding.
