Emilia-Romagna highlights the potential of the Saint Francis Way

08/07/2026

On March 25, 2026, the Emilia-Romagna Region participated in an online event organised by the association I Cammini di Francesco in Emilia-Romagna APS, highlighting AdriACTIVE’s contribution to the development of the Saint Francis Way.

The meeting reviewed the results achieved in 2025, with particular attention to the route connecting Rimini to the Sanctuary of La Verna. This itinerary forms part of the wider Saint Francis’ Ways network, certified as a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe in 2025.

Discussions focused on the activities undertaken along the route and opportunities for its future development. Cooperation among the territories it crosses was a central theme, with an emphasis on building lasting partnerships and strengthening local awareness of the route’s cultural and tourism value.

Within AdriACTIVE, the Saint Francis Way is the focus of Emilia-Romagna’s pilot activities, contributing to the project’s wider cross-border tourism itinerary. The Region highlighted how the project can help improve the visitor experience and visibility of the route, encouraging sustainable and inclusive tourism beyond the peak season. Walking the itinerary offers an opportunity to connect cultural heritage and spirituality with local communities and their economies.

The event also explored opportunities linked to the 800th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi in 2026, recognising the celebrations as a chance to raise international awareness of Franciscan routes and the territories they connect.
