AdriACTIVE kicks off in Venice: partners meet to launch a new cross-border model for sustainable active tourism
20/01/2026
On 1–2 December in Venice, the AdriACTIVE project officially started with its Kick-off Meeting, hosted by project partner CISET - International Centre of Studies on Tourism Economics. The event marked the beginning of AdriACTIVE’s implementation phase and represented a key moment for dialogue, coordination and shared planning among all project partners.
Representatives from the 15 project partners from Italy and Croatia —including regional authorities, development agencies and sector experts —gathered to define the project’s strategic vision, discuss the planned activities, and align on the expected impact and long-term objectives. The meeting also provided an important opportunity to strengthen cross-border cooperation and ensure a shared understanding of the project’s methodology, work plan and implementation timeline.

A new vision for active tourism in the Adriatic area
AdriACTIVE aims to develop a cross-border model of sustainable active tourism, promoting lesser-known cultural and natural heritage sites and supporting the promotion of new itineraries across the Programme area. By enhancing alternative destinations and strengthening territorial connections between coastal and inland areas, the project contributes to a more balanced, inclusive and resilient tourism offer.
At the core of AdriACTIVE is the ambition to address overtourism and foster a tourism approach that is slower, more accessible and regenerative, supporting local communities and reinforcing cultural identity. Through a combination of strategic planning, stakeholder engagement and innovation, AdriACTIVE will contribute to a tourism transformation grounded in sustainability and long-term value creation.
From strategy to action: piloting innovative solutions
During the Kick-off Meeting, partners also discussed the upcoming project steps, including the development of the Cross-border Touristic Itinerary and the preparation of pilot actions to test innovative solutions for destination management, visitor experience, accessibility and heritage valorisation.
The project partners will continue working closely in the coming months to translate this shared vision into impactful results for communities, visitors and sustainable tourism development.
