These documents reflect the project’s commitment to fostering accessible, inclusive, and sustainable tourism across the Italy–Croatia cross-border area, in line with Universal Design principles. The materials are intended for tourism professionals, public authorities, researchers, and anyone interested in creating more welcoming and inclusive tourist experiences.

WP1 aims to establish a shared framework for understanding and improving the accessibility of the tourism ecosystem across the programme area. It provides the theoretical, methodological, and analytical foundation necessary for the development of inclusive tourism solutions, guided by Universal Design (UD) principles.
This includes a multilevel investigation of tourism accessibility in Italy and Croatia to assess needs, gaps and opportunities, supported by a market research report on the potential of Universal Design in tourism and recommendations for branding and promotional strategies for inclusive destinations.
It also involves the creation of a living catalogue of UD-based theories and best practices, as well as the development of common methodologies and evaluation tools to analyse the accessibility of pilot sites throughout the project.

This deliverable presents the improvement process carried out within WP2 to make pilot communication materials clearer, more accessible and easier to understand for a wide range of users. Building on the analysis developed in D2.1.1, it gathers the final simplified versions of the selected materials produced by the pilot partners and provides their translations into the project languages: Croatian, English and Italian.
The document also includes a practical checklist for improving the simplicity and readability of tourism communication materials, with recommendations on syntax, vocabulary and content structure. In addition, it contains sign language translations provided as annexes, further strengthening the accessibility of project outputs and supporting a more inclusive travel experience in line with Universal Design principles.

This deliverable presents the transnational results of the first mapping and co-design activities carried out in the SITE pilot areas in Fano, Šibenik and Dubrovnik. Based on a participatory methodology, the report documents how project partners and local stakeholders assessed selected public spaces and tourism-related environments through site visits, shared observations and collaborative analysis based on the principles of Universal Design.
The document describes the methodology adopted during the visits and summarises the main findings related to accessibility, orientation and usability, with a particular focus on wayfinding systems, circulation paths and inclusive use of public spaces. It also outlines the critical issues identified in each pilot site and the co-designed improvement proposals that will support the next phase of project implementation and investments.

Work Package 3 focuses on the practical implementation of SITE’s inclusive approach in the pilot areas, transforming the needs identified through mapping and co-design activities into concrete actions and improvements.
Building on Universal Design principles, this work package supports the development of more accessible, understandable and user-friendly public spaces and wayfinding systems in key tourism environments, including waterfronts, historic centres, cultural sites and transport hubs.
Through pilot interventions in Italy and Croatia, WP3 aims to reduce physical and perceptual barriers, improve orientation and usability, and contribute to more welcoming tourist experiences for all visitors, including persons with disabilities, older people, families with children and users with temporary or situational needs.

D3.1.1 – Report on co-design public spaces and Hackathon winner solution
This deliverable provides an overview of the co-design activities carried out within WP3 through the SITE Hackathon “Inclusive Tourism for Everyone”, organised in Trieste on 26–27 November 2025. Conceived as a participatory and educational initiative, the event engaged students, recent graduates and young professionals in the development of innovative solutions to improve the accessibility and inclusiveness of tourist destinations and public spaces, in line with Universal Design principles.
The report documents the preparation, implementation and outcomes of the hackathon, including the challenge proposed to participants, the mentoring process, the evaluation criteria and the final projects developed by the multidisciplinary teams. It also presents the winning solution and highlights the value of co-design as a tool to generate practical, user-centred ideas for more accessible wayfinding systems, clearer communication and more welcoming tourism environments for all.

This deliverable gathers the video materials produced in connection with the SITE Hackathon held in Trieste, documenting the main moments of the event and supporting its dissemination through the project’s communication channels. The video production combines two complementary formats: longer thematic videos focused on speakers’ contributions, team presentations and event highlights, and short video pills designed for social media communication and audience engagement.
The collection helps ensure long-term visibility of the hackathon and makes its outcomes accessible to different target groups through the SITE website, YouTube and social media platforms. By showcasing the atmosphere of the event, the ideas developed by participants and the final award ceremony, the deliverable strengthens the external communication of WP3 activities and promotes the value of co-design, Universal Design and inclusive tourism within the broader SITE project framework.

This deliverable sets out the technical, financial and operational framework for the implementation of the co-designed solutions developed within the SITE project for the four pilot areas. Building on the needs and priorities identified during the mapping and co-design phase, the report translates the project’s inclusive approach into concrete pilot actions aimed at improving wayfinding systems and public spaces in accordance with Universal Design principles.
The document provides an updated overview of the planned investments for each pilot site, including temporal and budget-related aspects, the main critical issues identified during field visits, and the design requirements to be considered during implementation. By combining local needs, stakeholder input and shared accessibility criteria, the deliverable supports a flexible and context-sensitive implementation process, contributing to more accessible, usable and welcoming tourism environments in Italy and Croatia.
