11/06/2024
On May 25th, Permaculture Dalmatia organized an educational hike in the greenery of Glavica, near the town of Sinj, with the aim of discovering and getting to know the stenoendemic monotypic species Dalmatocytisus dalmaticus, considered one of the rarest plants in Croatia.

While this plant is extremly interesting to botanists and scientists, it remains unknown to the general public and unjustly overlooked and poorly preserved.
Its global distribution is limited to just 1.5 kilometers in a couple of locations near the town of Sinj, which is increasingly affected by haman activity that threats its survival consequently.
Through the educational walk, Permaculture Dalmatia aimed to introduce participants to this unique plant gem and its characteristics, raising awareness about its vulnerability and the importance of preservation.

The walk allowed people to immerse themselves in unspoiled nature, while exploring positive examples of activism carried put by the local community. Through their direct involvement and commitment, the local community succeeded in preventing the opening of the Greda quarry in Glavica, thereby saving the plant's habitat and contributing to its preservation.
These activities and actions of activism, which proudly involve Permaculture Dalmatia, demonstrate the collective interest and determination to protect the pristine nature that surrounds us.
