The Co-design workshop with the blue economy stakeholders of the Adriatic Sea took place on 18th November 2022

On 18th November 2022 from 9.15 to 13.30, the TECHERA project partners organized the co-design workshop with the blue economy stakeholders of the Adriatic Sea which was held at SEALOGY 2022 (Sala Volturno), Ferrara Fiere Congressi - Via della Fiera, 11, Ferrara (IT).

The co-design workshop goal was to engage the fisheries and aquaculture actors from the Adriatic area in discovering and exchanging new ideas and actions to generate sustainable innovation in the blue economy context. Because we share the same sea basin, there is a clear added value in addressing common challenges and finding joint solutions for the protection of our common resources.

This important trade fair event was attended by Andreaa Strachinescu, - Head of Unit Maritime Innovation, Marine Knowledge and Investment in the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE), responsible for promoting innovative and emerging technologies and solutions, and ensuring broad dissemination of marine knowledge and research.

Sealogy has been a great opportunity not only because it brought together experts and leaders in the Blue Economy sector, but it was also a great opportunity to develop new ideas, new projects, create contacts for the enhancement and protection of the marine environmental and sustainability.

The event was divided in 3 WORKING GROUPS:

  • Session 1: Fisheries management and governance
  • Session 2: Fisheries innovation and diversification
  • Session 3: Aquaculture: Management and innovation

WORKSHOP FOCUSED ON "PROMOTION OF CAREER IN BLUE SECTOR"

On 21th November a thematic workshop for final grade elementary and high school students, took place in Zadar. The event was organized by the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, as one of the project partners of the TECHERA project.

Valentina Andrić, Project Manager in the Ministry and moderator of the workshop, presented the goals of the project and opportunities for career development in the Blue sector. The workshop brought together eleven lecturers from the fisheries sector, from fishermen to breeders to representatives of the processing industry and representatives of the scientific community from Italy and Croatia

The participants were also addressed by Mr. Ante Mišura, Directorate of Fisheries principle, by emphasizing the Ministry's role in the project in terms of disseminating the results and attracting young personnel to the sector and its long-term sustainability as a strategically important economic branch of the Republic of Croatia and Italy, shared by the same Adriatic Sea

Daniel Segarić, head of the Department for Agriculture, Fisheries and EU Funds at Zadar County, which is also a partner in the same project, presented the role and possibilities of further development of the sector. The students had the opportunity to get first-hand information about the real market needs of specialists and other job positions in the blue sector. One of the goals of the TECHERA project is the development and promotion of careers in this sector.

As part of the workshop, a quiz “For those who want to know more" was organized with questions from the field of marine resource protection and marine science. At the end of the workshop, an interactive online survey was organized in which more than students participated, and the feedback received on their view of the observed sector will be used to create the Guidelines for the development of blue careers.

  • NGOs, associations, innovation agencies, business incubators, cluster management bodies and networks
  • Education and training organisations as well as social partners and labor-market institutions

A sustainable Blue Growth may be undermined by the unavailability of scientific and socio-economic observations related to the status of marine environment. The TECHERA project will tackle this problem by promoting the adoption of emerging technologies such as big-data sharing and analytics to increase the smart specialization of companies operating in the blue economy, and to attract the interest of young people in smart and blue careers.
Products of previous projects will be interconnected into study examples that will promote sharing of experience, and provide evidence of potentials and benefits of integration and complementary of approaches. Operational and knowledge gaps will be identified as well.
To achieve a consistent, meaningful, and successful communication, TECHERA will identify relevant stakeholders for thematic area 1, involving also other Standard and Strategic IT-HR projects operating in the same domain, and adopt different approaches (frontal lectures, participatory discussion, gaming) targeting the transferability of results in the Programme Area and beyond.
Finally, TECHERA will propose potential inputs for the next programming period in order to contribute to the definition of a strategy for digitization and to the identification of key innovations to improve the competitiveness in the blue economy
