On June 22, 2022, the first kick-off meeting of the SeCure project with the full name "Saltwater intrusion and climate change: monitoring, countermeasures and informed governance" was held in the organization of the Veneto Region in Venice.
The SeCure project will monitor the salinity of agricultural land in the Neretva valley and develop measures to increase the productivity of agricultural land and improve the state of the ecosystem. The project capitalizes on the results of three projects from the Interreg Italy-Croatia program: MoST, Asteris and Change We Care.
Based on the project results, longer periods of testing and monitoring the effectiveness of measures to reduce salt concentration in the pilot area will be carried out.
The project manager Pietro Teatini then briefly described the goals with a projection of the plan of activities that should be realized by the end of the project. During the working part of the meeting, experts from the pilot areas from Denmark, the Netherlands, Argentina and California presented their own solutions, that is, the measures they apply in an effort to reduce salinity in their pilot areas.
