RESPONSe team is working on meteorological and oceanographic data from the Adriatic Sea

How are local authorities addressing the climate change issue today?

Today, RESPONSe team was involved in a technical meeting on distance to discuss on meteorological, climate and oceanographic data over the Adriatic Sea and the Adriatic coast.
This comes after the harmonization of data collected in the project pilot areas over the last decades.
What we observed is a gradual increase of sea water temperature since 1979 and more dramatically since 2008: up to 1,56°C per decade, with extraordinary meterological events following.
Climate change is real: now it’s time to act. The first thing to do, is to make these data easy to be used by local policy makers; one of RESPONSe aims  is to cooperate with municipalities in order to prepare SECAPs in six pilot areas.
But how are local authorities addressing the climate change issue today?
Mitigation and adaptation strategies have been adopted in different ways on the two sides of the Adriatic sea, but there are differences also within the same region. For instance Primorsko-Goranska county works only on mitigation, Šibensko-Kninska e Dubrovacko-Neretvanska counties only on adapatation. Italian regions, instead, usually have a mix of both mitigation and adaptation measures.
RESPONSe team will keep these differences in mind while consulting local authorities in order to help them to define smart solutions responding to climate changes.
