3.3: Improve the environmental quality conditions of the sea and coastal area by use of sustainable and innovative technologies and approaches
University of Ferrara - Department of Physics and Earth Sciences
Local, regional and national public authorities
Regional and local development agencies
Associations, innovation and environmental agencies
Education and training organizations as well as universities and research institutes
The NET4mPLASTIC project aims to collect data on the distribution and composition of the Microplastic along the Croatian and Italian coastal and marine areas. A numerical model will simulate the marine transport processes of the Microplastic in the Adriatic Sea to identify possible Microplastic concentration zones in the pilot areas according to fluvial discharge and marine conditions. The drone images will be used to identify the presence of plastic, while some other parameters will be measured in real time by installing a specific platform on boats or on marine drones. Sampling will be done at the river mouth, in marine environment, on the beach and collecting biota samples. Chemical and biological analysis will identify the Microplastic, possible origin of the Microplastic and possible health impacts.

Software platform available at www.net4mplastic.net. As part of the NET4mPLASTIC Project, a software web-GIS platform with time and spatial information has been developed to approach an integrated view of the micro and macro plastics distributions in the Adriatic Sea.
The functionalities provided by the software platform include:
- The visualization on a web-GIS map of the prediction model data related to meteo-marine conditions
of the latest 5 years in specific Adriatic Sea areas (test sites areas of the Net4mPlastic project);

related main sources;
- The uploading and visualization of survey campaigns data related to the collection of beach and sea
surface micro and macro plastic data, and chemical-physical parameter of sea water;
- The uploading and visualization of laboratory data analysis results;
- The export of all data indicated above in excel or text format;
- The visualization of georeferenced pictures of macroplastic (marine litter);
- The production of a periodical bulletin indicating eventual critical conditions of microplastic coastal
distribution.
