Project MARLESS was presented at COASTING plus final international conference

In the organization of the Regional Agency DUNEA, in Dubrovnik on June 20 and 21, 2022, a partner meeting was held as well as the final conference of the COASTING PLUS project, which brought together project partners from Spain, Greece, Italy, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as representatives of public bodies and all interested stakeholders. 

The COASTING PLUS project is aimed at transferring the methodology for the integral management of the coastal area for sustainable tourism to five new target areas, which was adopted by the previous COASTING project. The conference began with a welcome speech by the representative of the leading partner of the Federation of Municipalities and Provinces of Andalusia, Teresa Muela Tudela, who emphasized that this federation will integrate all the guidelines and conclusions of COASTING PLUS into future strategies that would lead to the sustainability of coastal tourism. The Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of the Government of Herzegovina-Neretva County, Donko Jović, emphasized that it was extremely important for them to participate in this project, with a special focus on the protection of their coastal area. The prefect of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, Nikola Dobroslavić, addressed the gathering, who pointed out that we must make tourism sustainable and high-quality in the future. He also emphasized that we are all moving in the same direction of safe and sustainable tourism. This was followed by the presentation of experiences in applying the project methodology and pilot areas of project partners from Italy, Spain, Greece and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The DUNEA Regional Agency was in charge of transferring the project methodology to new areas.

During the conference, MARLESS projects was presented as an example of innovative actions and good practice in the field of coastal management, focusing on marine litter.

At the very end of the conference, the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding in Coastal Management were presented, signed by the representatives of the partner organizations for the purpose of accepting and advocating the project methodology, all with the aim of encouraging the project partners for future cooperation, spreading the improved methodology and implementing activities aimed at the recovery of coastal areas on the Mediterranean area
