Aimed at students, the information day addressed the complexity of the marine litter issue by digging deeper and explaining the various processes related to collection and processing of the various types of plastics in the era of circular economy. Professors Andrea Contin and Alfredo Liveranni presented plastic pyrolysis and plastic pick-up technologies addressed by the MARLESS project, while prof. Ivano Vassura discussed the problems presented by the various types of existing plastics and how they are affected in water.
The Municipality of Rimini representative Anna Montini, on the other hand, presented the already-existing successful initiatives that help reduce single-use plastics in the Rimini area. The event was closed by Sauro Pari, director of the Cetacea Foundation, who also showcased the successful activities taken up by the organisation to combat marine litter and raise awareness about the issue in the community.
