Satellite technologies for localization in ports, marine pollution tracking and risk management

In the high-level conference “Sustainable port management through Copernicus: the space-based IMPRESSIVE platform”, INTESA project is invited to present its overall aims and progresses as well as its Pilot Action developed by the Leading Partner North Adriatic Sea Port Auhority concerning cartography and PPUs.

The reference is to the PPUs provided to the ports of Venice and Chioggia within the INTESA project, together with other high-precision instruments; and to the aerophotogrammetry activities of the port areas, both to improve nautical accessibility and safety, making port activities safer and maritime transport more efficient.

Paolo Menegazzo, from North Adriatic Sea Port Auhority, will bring also the port autorithies’ view to enrich the debate among the IMPRESSIVE stakeholders during the roundtable “Identifying the user in the different ports organised throughout Europe”.

ABOUT IMPRESSIVE PROJECT

The IMPRESSIVE project is about the development of a universal platform able to tracks the marine pollution events in the EU’s ports. With various innovative technologies – such as those for earth observation, robotics and satellite images – the platform will be a supportive tool to achieve a better port management, also helping in the reduction of water pollutants, improving the quality of waters.

The IMPRESSIVE platform will contribute to the overall sustainability of ports by implementing a complete supply chain for the evaluation of the environmental conditions in ports. With this kind of improved risk management, it will be possible to conduct safer activities, also identifying illegal polluting activities, guaranteeing a better corporate image for industries operating in these areas.
