ICARUS pilot activity implemented

Published on 17/02/2021 (last modified 17/02/2021)

With the aim of promoting intermodality and sustainable transport solutions, FVG Region installed bike wheeling ramps in 9 train stations in the region. Passengers can now easily slide their bikes along the staircases and reach their train platform! This is the second pilot completed within the ICARUS project.

Through its piloting activities ICARUS partners wish to promote intermodal and sustainable transport solutions and incentive citizens to change their behavior, by shifting to more sustainable transport modes.
Having this in mind, Friuli Venezia Giulia Region completed its first pilot activity by installing bike wheeling ramps in 9 train stations of the region. In this way cyclists who wish to proceed their travel by train can easily slide their bikes along the staircases and reach the train platform. This activity is linked to other already existing initiatives of the Region to improve train-bike connectivity along the Aple-Adria cycle path connecting it, by train to Trieste, to the Parenzana cycle path and to ensure a better connection between the two cycle routes. The pilot is interconnected the second piloting activity “Bike&Bus” connection from Trieste to Porec.
The wheeling ramps have been installed in the stations of: Ugovizza, Valbruna, Pontebba, Carnia, Venzone, Gemona, Artegna, Tarcento, Tricesimo S. Pelagio and Udine. Thanks to some project savings, additional wheeling ramps will be installed in other train stations.
