During a site visit organised by IDA, ICARUS project partner, the consortium tested the train+bike route across Istrian countryside, connecting coast and hinterland. Participants enjoyed the beautiful scenary and old-fashioned train stations as part of touristic attraction. The pilot action IDA intends to contribute to consists in the transformation of 21 km railway from Rovinj to Kanfanar into a cycling path.

During the 2nd ICARUS consortium meeting, ICARUS partners participated in an interesting cycling tour, which started with a train trip from Pula to Pazin, followed by joint cycling to Kanfanar and finally, train trip to Pula. Partners had the opportunity to learn more about the pilot the agency intends to implement and enjoy the wonderful Istrian scenery and countryside.
In the framework of the ICARUS project Istrian Development Agency (IDA) will perform a pilot activity by contributing to the transformation of the railway line Rovinj-Kanfanar to a cycle path of 21 km. Currently, the agency is performing the gaps and needs analysis for infrastructural development with the aim of improving passenger mobility in the cross-border area Italy-Croatia. To that purpose the cooperation with the Croatian railways has already started with the aim of granting the possibility to load bikes on all regular railway lines in Istrian region. Through this ICARUS activity Istrian hinterland will be better connected to the coast, ensuring major road security for the cyclists by shifting them from the road to the cycle path.
