HANDY marks International Disaster Risk Reduction Day - 13 October 2025

On October 13th, the HANDY project joined the global community in marking the International Disaster Risk Reduction Day, an initiative launched by the United Nations to promote awareness and action towards building safer and more resilient societies.
The event, organized in the framework of HANDY, highlighted the importance of international cooperation, regional preparedness, and strong local governance in the face of natural and man-made disasters. It gathered key stakeholders and decision-makers, reflecting the shared commitment to strengthening civil protection systems across borders.
Among the distinguished speakers and participants were:
- Mr. Neven Karas, Acting Director of the Civil Protection Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, who addressed the audience via videoconference;
- Ms. Zrinka Raguž, State Secretary at the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds of the Republic of Croatia;
- Mr. Joško Cebalo, Deputy County Prefect and Head of the Civil Protection Headquarters of the Dubrovnik-Neretva County;
- Representatives from municipalities and cities of Dubrovnik-Neretva County;
- Numerous civil protection operators, who actively contribute to preparedness and emergency response in the region.
Through their contributions, the event reaffirmed the vital role of collaboration at all levels - local, regional, national, and international - in reducing disaster risks and ensuring community resilience. The HANDY project continues to stand as a platform for cooperation, knowledge-sharing, and joint action in the Adriatic-Ionian area, aligning with the broader goals of the United Nations and the European Union.
