New Equipment for Emergency Management for the Municipality of Aquileia

14/09/2025

Aquileia has recently invested in new equipment to face climate-related emergencies more effectively. Thanks to the HANDY project, the municipality has completed the purchase of specialised tools that will soon support the local Civil Protection Service. Consequently, the recently acquired equipment is expected to be delivered in the coming months and will be used locally to ensure a sustainable and effective response to extreme weather events.

In recent decades, the Municipality of Aquileia has been facing growing hydrogeological risks, as floods have become increasingly frequent in terms of danger and occurrence. Such harmful dynamics have highlighted the need for a more resilient territorial management system, in which prevention and mitigation are essential to safeguard not only the community but also the archaeological area of Aquileia and the Patriarchal Basilica, both recognised as UNESCO world heritage sites.

The equipment expected to arrive in Aquileia includes a truck with side walls that can be tilted on all three sides, equipped with a crane and grapple, as well as box walls and self-propelled lighting towers with power generators.

By providing specialised and reliable tools, the initiative contributes not only to local preparedness but also to cross-border cooperation between Italy and Croatia in tackling climate-related risks. At the same time, it contributes to safeguarding a heritage site of outstanding universal value.
