NIGHT OF FORTRESSES 2025: OVER 70 LOCATIONS ACROSS 10 EUROPEAN COUNTRIES!

On Friday, May 9th – Europe Day, more than 70 fortified sites in 10 European countries will open their doors to visitors as part of the fourth edition of the event Night of Fortresses, which this year is called Night of Fortresses Goes Green.

This special European event celebrates the cultural and historical heritage of fortresses and castles. In 2025, it also shares a strong environmental message. The focus is on the connection between nature and society, and on promoting the values of sustainability, equality, inclusion, and cultural diversity.

This year’s green edition of Night of Fortresses 2025 has brought together fortresses, castles, museums, galleries, and historic towns from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia, Serbia, Czech Republic, Romania, Lithuania, Ukraine – and for the first time – Italy.
A significant step forward in the number of participating locations has been made possible thanks to cross-border collaboration through the FORTIC project, which enabled the expansion of the event into new sites in Croatia and Italy.

Organisers across Europe have prepared a wide and exciting programme: open days, guided tours, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, concerts and many other events that connect cultural heritage with environmental and sustainable themes. All events are free of charge.

Night of Fortresses Goes Green is part of the project FORTIC – From remains Of the war to the aRchiTecture of peace in cross-border area of Italy-Croatia, funded by the Interreg Italy–Croatia 2021–2027 programme.
The project brings together the City of Pula as the lead partner, along with the City of Korčula, Fortress of Culture Šibenik, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and the municipalities of Cervia and Vieste. Associated partners include the School for Education and Training Pula, Korčula Tourist Board, and UNPLI Veneto (Italy).
