Cross-border Experimental Workshop and Local seminar in Venice
On 24 February 2026, the FORTIC project partners from Ca' Foscari University of Venice will host the Cross-boarder Experimental Workshop and Local Seminar at Forte Marghera in Venice.
Organised within WP1 – Integrated cross-border approach towards cultural heritage valorisation (Culture +), the event will bring together Italian and Croatian stakeholders, project partners, public authorities, cultural managers, researchers and practitioners engaged in the management and revitalisation of fortified heritage sites.
Experimental Workshop – Cross-Border Meeting
The morning session will focus on sustainable heritage interpretation and management of fortified sites, fostering dialogue, cross-fertilisation and mutual learning among participants. Project partners will present key findings, including socio-economic insights and innovative management models, alongside case studies from fortified sites in Italy and Croatia. The workshop will conclude with an interactive study visit to Forte Marghera, offering participants a first-hand experience of its restoration process and new multifunctional uses.
Local Seminar – From Fortifications to Laboratories of Ideas
The afternoon session will explore the multifunctional reuse of fortified sites as drivers of social inclusion, cultural diversity and sustainable local development. Through best practice examples and a roundtable discussion, the seminar will highlight how former military sites can evolve into vibrant cultural hubs and “laboratories of ideas” within a viable business ecosystem.
In today’s complex international context, marked by global crises and conflicts, fortified sites can play a renewed and meaningful role: transforming places once associated with division into spaces that promote dialogue, inclusiveness and a peaceful, multicultural society.
We warmly invite stakeholders and interested participants to join us in Venice and contribute to shaping innovative and sustainable pathways for the valorisation of cross-border cultural heritage.
