Technical meeting in view of the preparation of the Oil Spill exercise: simulation of an oil spill-beaching at sea

On Monday 20 February 2023, as part of the FIRESPILL project, an organizational meeting at the headquarters of the Civil Protection Department of the Puglia Region was held with the various operational structures of the section in order to organize and prepare a technical exercise to be held in Lesina-Varano (FG) in the spring 2023 and which will consist in the simulation of an oil spill at sea.

Thanks to the collaboration of CMCC and Legambiente, all staff and volunteers of the Civil Protection section will attend a training course on the use of marine anti-pollution equipment.

The civil protection exercise represents an important tool for prevention and verification of emergency plans and aims to test intervention models and procedures, to update local knowledge and the adequacy of resources and to prepare both the subjects involved in emergency management and the population, to the correct behaviors to adopt in the event of a real emergency.

These real-scale exercises also allow to evaluate the reactivity of the vehicles mobilized in the event of real pollution and to understand the level of interaction between the parties, to acquire more knowledge on the methods of organization in the fight against pollution, to find technical/ scientific research and increase the level of operation of the respective intervention and emergency management systems.
