Great success for the training course to strengthen the skills of volunteers and administrative staff on oil spill risk management

On 13 and 14 March 2023, at the headquarters of the @Protezione Civile Regione Puglia and as part of the FIRESPILL project, was held a training course implemented with Legambiente to strengthen the skills of volunteers, operators, and administrative staff on oil spill risk management.

Thanks to Legambiente's experience in marine ecosystem protection activities, ranging from volunteer actions to organizing teams of volunteers specialized in coastal cleanup activities in case of oil pollution, participants had the opportunity to be involved in a theoretical training course on the effects of oil on marine and coastal ecosystems.

The course also included a technical-operational part on response measures in case of an emergency due to an oil spill, from the organization of the work to the logistical needs related to the intervention on the coast cleaning from the pollutant, but also a focus on preventive measures to mitigate the impact of pollution in the littoral zone, such as docks and other tools to protect vulnerable sites.
