The workshop of the INTERREG IT-HR project ECOMOBILITY falls within the same EC Green Week and Open days of EU projects in Rijeka, and with its content will take part at both events.

The overall objective of ECOMOBILITY is to promote an innovative and eco-friendly approach to transport management in coastal areas, It is also expected to increase public awareness among citizens and visitors towards environmental issues. Furthermore, ECOMOBILITY will enlarge the knowledge about the impact of shipping on air quality in Venice and Rijeka, which could be useful for future actions to curb pollutant emission from the maritime sector in the delicate coastal environment.

ECOMOBILITY is developing a supporting tool for traffic management system named EcoMobility, which will allow traffic management bodies to organize vehicles flow based on pollutant concentration, avoiding peaks of pollution. The system is collecting environmental data from monitoring stations located around the city and stream them to traffic management bodies in real time, thus permitting intervention in time with the most appropriate action. Thus the workshop in Rijeka will have two parts: 1. Promotion and demonstration of the application EcoMobility with local air pollution conditions and 2. to present preliminary data on chemical composition of airborne particulates, with emphasis to nanoparticle fractions, known to be the most harmful to human health. The results from both cities involved will be compared.
