Testing site visit in Dubrovnik highlights pilot results

05/12/2025

On 1 December 2025, the CROSSCONNECT project reached a significant milestone in Dubrovnik with the official presentation of a suite of innovative mobility solutions designed to improve the travel experience for cruise passengers and other visitors arriving by air or sea.

At a testing site visit held at the Dubrovnik Port Authority premises in Gruž, project partners Ruđer Bošković Airport and the Dubrovnik Port Authority showcased the results of their pilot actions. The event brought together local stakeholders to highlight progress and demonstrate new tools and technologies developed within the project framework.

Central to this pilot action is a newly launched mobile application that assists passengers in navigating their journey from the airport to the port. The app provides realtime information on key aspects of travel, including flight schedules, traffic conditions on the road between the airport and Gruž port, and guidance on destinations and attractions along the route. This integrated solution aims to offer clarity and convenience, particularly for “home port” passengers who are experiencing the city only for a short period.

During the event, project partners also presented the green mobility assets acquired through CROSSCONNECT. These include:

  • An electric transport vehicle for individual transfers of passengers with reduced mobility at the port;
  • An electric baggage tractor at the airport;
  • Electric bicycles used by airport staff for operational movement.

The launch demonstrated how technological and sustainable transport solutions can work together to streamline connections between air and maritime travel and enhance accessibility for all passengers. Representatives from both partner institutions emphasised the role of these pilot actions in reducing CO emissions, improving information flow, and supporting more efficient and userfriendly transport options in the region.

Following the presentations, attendees had the opportunity to see the electric mobility vehicle in operation at the port’s operational quay, underlining the practical application of these interventions as part of everyday passenger service.
