New electric vehicles delivered in Dubrovnik as part of CROSSCONNECT pilot action

17/07/2025

The adoption of sustainable and energy-efficient mobility solutions is taking shape in Dubrovnik as part of the CROSSCONNECT project, which aims to improve intermodal connectivity between ports, airports, and urban areas in the Adriatic region.

Within the scope of the Dubrovnik pilot action, key green mobility equipment has recently been delivered and is now being put into use by two partners:

  • Dubrovnik Airport has replaced outdated fossil fuel-powered vehicle previously used for transferring home port passengers baggage from the remote cruise baggage processing area to aircraft with a new electric tractor for departure flights and form aircraft to terminal baggage sorting area for arrival flights. This change will significantly reduce the airport's carbon footprint and operational energy consumption, while ensuring smoother and quieter service for passengers. Additionally, DBV has purchased electric bicycles for operational staff for home-port operation activities for accessing remote cruise baggage processing area.

  • Dubrovnik Port Authority has acquired electric golf cart with trailer, which will be used to transport cruise passengers through the port area from the arrival point in the port to the ship embarkation zone. Given the 2-kilometre length of the port’s operative coastline, this solution is particularly valuable for elderly or mobility-impaired passengers, improving their access and overall travel experience.

These improvements are part of the CROSSCONNECT project’s broader goal to implement smart, sustainable, and inclusive transport infrastructure. By introducing electric mobility solutions, the Dubrovnik pilot not only contributes to reducing emissions and energy usage but also enhances the quality of service provided to visitors arriving by sea and air.

This pilot activity is co-financed by the Interreg Italy–Croatia Programme, under which CROSSCONNECT is developing coordinated, cross-border mobility solutions across key ports and airports of the Adriatic region.
