New Training Toolkit for Technicians and Policy Makers Now Available

A new key output of the project is now available: D3.3.1 – Training Toolkit of the Workshop for Technicians and Policy Makers, developed within Activity 3.3.
The Training Toolkit was jointly developed by the Italian and Croatian partners through the workshops and capacity-building activities carried out during the project. Its main objective is to facilitate the transfer of knowledge generated through the pilot cases and support the dissemination of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) and Blue Credits approaches among technical and institutional stakeholders.
Connecting Knowledge with Practical Experience
Designed for water utility managers, irrigation and reclamation consortia, hydraulic and environmental specialists, water infrastructure companies, public authorities, policy makers, researchers and other professionals involved in water resource management, the Toolkit connects scientific and operational knowledge with policy development and strategic planning.
Combining technical information, explanatory diagrams, monitoring results and practical examples, it was conceived as an operational training resource that can support workshops, stakeholder dialogue and the practical application of knowledge developed through the project.
Learning from the Italian and Croatian Pilot Cases
The Toolkit presents experiences and results from both project pilot areas.
In the Italian pilot case in the Mezzano Valley, Province of Ferrara, the project assessed the contribution of agricultural wetlands to shallow aquifer recharge through MAR techniques. Monitoring provided practical information on groundwater recharge performance, aquifer response, salinity reduction and wider environmental benefits.
The Croatian pilot case in Southern Istria focused on MAR solutions within a karst aquifer environment using treated wastewater from the Loborika treatment plant. Particular attention was given to tracer testing, underground hydraulic connections, identification of suitable infiltration areas and continuous water quality monitoring.
Together, the two pilot cases demonstrate how common groundwater stewardship principles can be adapted to different environmental and hydrogeological conditions.
Supporting Training, Awareness and Replicability
The Toolkit was used during classroom and field-based training activities within Activity 3.3, helping participants connect theoretical knowledge with direct observation of pilot interventions and real implementation challenges.
Beyond the project lifetime, its flexible and transferable structure provides a valuable resource for future training, awareness-raising and stakeholder engagement activities in other territories interested in implementing Managed Aquifer Recharge solutions.
