The last 20th October 2022, by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region premises, the results of the data collection on the small scale fisheries in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions have been presented to public and stakeholders.

The survey has been conducted by the LP- Autonomous region Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the support of ERSA, the regional Agency for the rural development, within the ARGOS project activities oriented to integrate official statistical database with detailed data on small scale fisheries at local level, with the final aim of filling the gap in knowledge to support the management models for this kind of fishery. The results, introduced by Mrs. Laura Zoratti (ERSA Friuli Venezia Giulia), show that the small scale fisheries, practised in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto regions, comply with a sustainable harvesting, tailoring the catches with the seasonality of the stocks and using fishing gears that respects the minimum catching sizes. Moreover, thanks to the reduced quantity of catches, the small scale fisheries represent a well balance activity with the environmental components and ichthyic stocks, that, nevertheless has being suffering, since last years, for the raising of the sea temperature and the invasive alien species.

This emergency has been confirmed also by Mr. Giorgio Milocco, President of the Consortium Small Scale Fishery of the Friuli Venezia Giulia, who underlined how the effect of the climate change are affecting the availability of fish stocks and therefore the vitality of the whole sector and of coastal communities.
