The ARGOS project achieved an important cooperation milestone with the organisation of the first cross-border exchange and training labs in Italy. The exchange took place on last October in Marche and Molise regions (from 10th to 13th) and involved more than 20 among Italian and Croatian fishers and aquaculture farmers, beyond the project partners. The visit developed over three days in which the operators and partners’ team visited laboratories of CNR IRBIM in Ancona, of the Politecnico delle Marche in Ancona, and those of the Zooprophylactic Institute in Termoli. During the visits, researchers transferred to operators the importance of the monitoring of ichthyic stocks, as well as best practices for the diversification of traditional fishing and aquaculture activities, in order to promote sustainable practices to reduce the pressure of catches and exploitation of marine resources in the Adriatic sea. Moreover, the team had the opportunity to visit innovative mussel farm as well as shellfish purification processing plant to get in contact with advanced productive processes in which the “low impact” represent an objective to be replicated also in other scenarios. Lastly, the exchange has been the occasion to share ideas and know-how among Italian and Croatian operators, not only to boost the unique features of the Adriatic fishing communities but also to transfer best approaches and responsible behaviours towards more and more sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.
