- AdriaSAR Project: Italy and Croatia Strengthen Maritime Safety Ties During HighLevel Workshops in Ston
On-Site Workshop with Otranto Coast Guard Focuses on Maritime Rescue Systems and Project Benefits
05/06/2026
OTRANTO (Lecce, Italy) – June 4, 2026 – Today, the AdriaSAR project reached a key milestone with an official on-site workshop conducted at the Otranto Coast Guard offices (Capitaneria di Porto di Otranto). The session was led by an institutional Italian delegation representing the Municipality of Martano (Lead Partner) and CNA Lecce.
The on-site workshop served as a technical forum to engage directly with critical maritime stakeholders. The primary focus was mapping the regulatory frameworks, operational protocols, and digital information systems currently deployed during Search and Rescue (SAR) operations in the Adriatic Sea.
Beyond the technical assessment of active systems—such as national vessel tracking networks and specialized drift-calculation modules—the workshop provided a valuable space for an open exchange of views regarding the overall progress of the AdriaSAR project. Participants reviewed the current operational roadmap and actively discussed the tangible benefits and long-term impacts of the project's expected outputs.
Special emphasis was placed on how the future open-source digital platform developed by AdriaSAR will actively support the daily operations of the Coast Guard and the other stakeholders. By streamlining data exchange and ensuring interoperability without compromising highly secured national systems, the project's outputs will deliver faster response times, reduced administrative burdens, and enhanced safety for cross-border maritime rescue teams.
"Today’s on-site workshop was an excellent opportunity for mutual growth," stated the representative delegation of the project’s partnership. "Discussing our project's progress directly with the officers who handle emergencies on a daily basis allows us to align our deliverables with real-world needs."
The insights and feedback gathered during this workshop will be integrated into the project's upcoming Barrier Analysis Report (Activity 1.1). The AdriaSAR project is a targeted 18-month initiative funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 Programme, dedicated to building a safer, more integrated, and technologically advanced Adriatic maritime region.
