WAITING FOR AQUAFARM: RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Published on 28/01/2020 (last modified 29/01/2020)

AdriAquaNet project was born to improve the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Italian and Croatian mariculture. The first positive results will be presented at the 4th edition of AquaFarm in Pordenone from 19 to 20 February 2020.

AdriAquaNet project was born from the collaboration between companies, farms and research centers in order to improve the competitiveness and environmental sustainability of Italian and Croatian mariculture. After a year of activity, the project is already bringing the first positive results that will be presented at the 4th edition of AquaFarm which will be held in Pordenone from 19 to 20 February, in the "EuroAquaculture" session dedicated to European projects.

Since the project is aimed directly at producers and breeders of mariculture, our researchers and partners will receive companies and the public in person at the AdriAquaNet stand to tell the state of the research. Visitors will get the materials describing the professional training proposals that will be organized this year in various places in Italy and Croatia. Furthermore, the opinions and suggestions from all those who want to make their contribution to the project will be most welcome. AdriAquaNet is a complex but also unique project in the area, since it aims to transfer advanced knowledge and new technologies to the entire mariculture chain - from the management of production plants to the market of processed food products - to allow improving the environmental sustainability of fish plants, to safeguard the welfare of farmed fish and at the same time to provide safe products capable of meeting consumer expectations.

The first experimental feeding tests, conducted at the University of Udine (UNIUD) and the Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (IZOR) in Split, are about to end and already indicate useful solutions on the best diets in terms of cost-effectiveness, environmental impact, fish welfare and product quality. The second group of researchers is concerned with improving the health management of farms through the development of new stabulogenic vaccines and therapies based on natural products.

Research is successful when there is an effective use of its results and leads to the creation of a product, the results of which can be used and applied to concrete problems. This is also the commitment of AdriAquaNet. The goals are very concrete for the production sector: finding innovative solutions for the breeding and nutrition of sea bass and sea bream and new systems for energy saving in production plants, aimed at ensuring greater sustainability and quality of mariculture.
