AdriaClimPlus webinar highlights progress in coastal climate adaptation through the GIDAC Strategy
27/07/2026
On 22 July 2026, the webinar "Adapting to a Changing Climate: A Survey on the GIDAC Strategy along the Coast" brought together experts, regional authorities and representatives of coastal municipalities to discuss the implementation of climate adaptation measures along the Emilia-Romagna coastline.
The event was organised by Regione Emilia-Romagna and Arpae, with the technical support of ART-ER, within the framework of the Interreg Italy–Croatia AdriaClimPlus project. The webinar was held in Italian and provided an opportunity to present the results of a regional survey assessing the implementation of the Integrated Coastal Defence and Climate Adaptation Strategy (GIDAC) between 2022 and 2025.
The survey, based on responses from local authorities along the regional coast, examined how municipalities are addressing climate adaptation through spatial planning, coastal protection, sediment management, beach maintenance, and awareness-raising activities.
The findings highlighted encouraging progress, with climate adaptation increasingly integrated into local planning processes and many municipalities already implementing practical measures to improve coastal resilience.
At the same time, the discussion identified several common challenges, including the need for more consistent monitoring data, improved tracking of adaptation measures and stronger coordination and information sharing between local and regional authorities.
The webinar also provided an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and discuss how regional institutions can continue supporting municipalities in implementing effective climate adaptation measures and building more resilient coastal communities.
The event forms part of the broader AdriaClimPlus effort to strengthen climate adaptation across the Adriatic area by promoting science-based knowledge, innovative tools and cooperation between institutions and stakeholders.
