Puglia Region launches a training course on Climate Change and Spatial Planning under AdriaClimPlus project
The Puglia Region is launching a training course within the framework of the AdriaClimPlus project, funded by the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 Programme, aimed at strengthening the integration of climate science into spatial planning and public decision-making.
Titled "Climate Change, Adaptation and Spatial Planning", the course is designed for public administrators and its technical staff and professionals interested in improving their capacity to address climate challenges through informed and effective territorial planning.
Supporting climate resilience in the Adriatic area
AdriaClimPlus focuses on enhancing the resilience of the Adriatic basin to key risks such as sea-level rise, coastal erosion and the increasing frequency of extreme weather events. The project works across seven pilot areas in Italy and Croatia, testing targeted adaptation strategies and providing high-resolution climate data to support local and regional authorities.
Course structure and topics
The training will take place from 8 April to 28 May 2026 and includes seven sessions-four online and three in person at the premises of the Puglia Region –followed by a study visit to the Torre Guaceto Natural Reserve.
Participants will explore:
- climate science and future scenarios, including sea-level rise
- policy and governance frameworks at EU and regional level
- tools for coastal and urban resilience planning
- innovative solutions such as "sponge cities"
- advanced technologies, including remote sensing and climate risk assessment tools
Who can participate
The course is open to public administrations, local authorities, public service providers and their professionals from all regions of the Programme area working in relevant fields.
