University of Bologna – Scientific Excellence for Coastal Climate Modelling

The University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum – UNIBO), the oldest university in the Western world, contributes to the AdriaClimPlus project through its Interdepartmental Center for Environmental Sciences Research (CIRSA), based in Ravenna.

With a legacy of academic excellence and a strong interdisciplinary approach, UNIBO brings advanced scientific capacity to the study of climate change impacts on the Adriatic Sea and its coastal systems.

As part of AdriaClimPlus, the CIRSA team is responsible for:

  • Developing advanced numerical models of Adriatic Sea circulation, covering both short-term dynamics and long-term trends

  • Analyzing, validating, and calibrating climate simulations and projections

  • Supporting the scientific robustness of regional climate assessments

By ensuring that climate models are accurate, reliable, and regionally tailored, the University of Bologna strengthens the foundation for effective and science-based climate adaptation along the Adriatic coast.
