Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds – Directorate for Islands
Ensuring Sustainable Development and Climate Resilience for Island Communities
Within the AdriaClimPlus project, the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds – through its Directorate for Islands – plays a key role in supporting climate adaptation efforts tailored to the specific needs of Croatia’s island regions.
As the national authority for regional development, the Ministry is responsible for improving living conditions and promoting balanced, sustainable growth across 53 inhabited Croatian islands, home to 127,838 inhabitants. Its work is guided by a robust legislative and strategic framework for island development.
In AdriaClimPlus, the Directorate for Islands contributes by:
-
Advocating for sustainable development in island areas
-
Integrating island-specific priorities into national and regional adaptation strategies
-
Promoting policies that strengthen resilience and improve quality of life on the islands
Given the heightened vulnerability of island communities to climate change, this contribution is essential for ensuring that adaptation measures are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to local realities.
