Ocean Best Practices Systems (OPBS)
• Basin-scale ocean-observing, efficient and consistent monitoring and predicting of the ocean is essential and requires collaborative efforts at regional and global scale.
• Ocean observing needs to follow well-defined, common and reproducible methods from strategies for structuring observing systems, sensor deployment and usage, and the generation of data and information products.
• Methods across all aspects of ocean observing should be broadly adopted by the ocean community and, where appropriate, should evolve into “Ocean Best Practices”.
• The OBPS is a global, sustained system comprising technological solutions and community approaches to enhance management of methods as well as support the development of ocean best practices (Prof. Jay Pearlman)
