Event organized by SEArica with support of the AdriaClim project paid attention on improving adaptation to climate change and coastal resilience

 

 

Organized by SEArica, with the support of the Interreg Italy-Croatia AdriaClim project and the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions, on February 28, 2023 a meeting was held in Bruxelles on capitalizing the results of EU projects and regional initiatives with the aim of improving adaptation to climate change and coastal resilience. The meeting was chaired by Member of the European Parliament Catherine Chabaud, SEArica Vice President for Climate and Governance.

The meeting was held in two panels:


Panel 1: Regional contribution to climate change adaptation in the Mediterranean.
In the introductory part of panel 1, Nadia Pinardi, professor of oceanography at the University of Bologna, provided the information needed for the resilience of the coast that we want according to the AdriaCLIM perspective, and representatives of institutions from the Mediterranean area presented about good practices.


Panel 2: Broadening the Perspective - Challenges and Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation in Other Sea Basins.


Théophile Bongart, director of the Sea'ties project, Ocean & Climate platform, provided information from an Atlantic perspective, while Bernard Baerends, executive secretary of the Joint Wadden Sea Secretariat, gave an introduction to the issue from a North Sea perspective.
After the presentation of all the participants  followed a debate and the closing remarks of MEP Catherine Chabaud.
