ADRIREEF

Innovative exploitation of Adriatic Reefs in order to strengthen blue economy

START DATE

01.12.2018

END DATE

30.11.2021

TOTAL BUDGET

€ 2.814.830

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVE

  • To enhance the potential of Adriatic reefs in order to increase blue economy and so employability
  • ADRIREEF project aims at examining the Blue Economy potential of Adriatic reefs, enchancing the attractiveness of existing marine resources to promote economic development through, inter alia, aquaculture and tourism activities

LEAD PARTNER

Municipality of Ravenna (1)

TARGET GROUPS

1.General Public

2.Local, regional and national Public Authorities

3.Regional and local development agencies, chambers of commerce and other business support organisations

4.SMEs

5.Universities, technology transfer institutions, research institutions

ADRIREEF has the ambition to combine innovative actions related to natural and artificial Adriatic reefs with possible socio- economic impacts originated from activities such as aquaculture and tourism, two sectors of Blue Economy. As the success of activities strongly depends on the structural and ecological performance of the reefs (both natural and artificial), the project will also include setting up and testing of suitable technologies with low impact for underwater monitoring.  A White paper on the exploitation of Adriatic reefs will also include a specific plan for future funding projects in the forthcoming programming period 2021-2028.

VIDEO

This tour simulates a dive on the Paguro wreck located offshore Ravenna. Starting from the Daphne II vessel, users will experience the unique sensation of diving with the research staff engaged in the study of the reef.

This video has been produced by Arpae Emilia-Romagna - Struttura Oceanografica Daphne with the contribution of the EU co-financing and the Interreg Italy-Croatia CBC Programme. Natural and artificial reefs are priceless elements for the scientific community and key resources for Blue Growth. By mapping and monitoring Adriatic reefs and involving relevant stakeholders, Adrireef aims to provide guidelines and a code of conduct illustrating sustainable exploitation models of marine reefs. The Adriatic sea counts a large number of marine ecosystems suitable for the Blue Economy purposes. Monitoring and studying natural and artificial reefs is essential to collect information both for the protection of the environment and for the development of sustainable activities with a positive social and economic impact. The following are the project case studies with their features and highlights. A true resource of amazing biodiversity and a spectacular destination. Enjoy the Adriatic reefs!

Interreg Italy-Croatia Programme was a part of the Biennale of Venice 2021. The event was held on 2 September to showcase the cultural and communicative dimension of the European cooperation.
The ADRIREEF project was presented among several other projects that focused on „How to enhance cooperation and territories in the Adriatic area“. Representatives of the ADRIREEF pointed out the main project activities and emphasis was placed on the second edition of the festival as part of the project.

From 30 August to 1 September 2019, Marina di Ravenna hosted the first edition of the ADRIREEF Festival, the European festival aimed at promoting and enhancing the Adriatic Sea reefs. It featured a rich program of meetings, tastings, events and much more, such as a the Adriathon, an hackathon marathon challenge involving young students, researchers, professionals and creative minds dedicated to the development of new projects and ideas for the sustainable development of the Adriatic Sea.
